Abstract
In this study, effects of the corner block dimensions on moment and shear force capacities for T-type glued doweled furniture joints were investigated. Specimens were prepared of Turkish beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) and Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) woods. The specimens jointed with beech dowels and polyvinylacetate (PVAc) adhesive were reinforced by the corner blocks measuring of 30×30×25 mm, 40×40×25 mm, 50×50×25 mm ve 60×60×25 mm. A total of 200 specimens included 2 test types, 2 wood species, 4 corner block dimensions, control specimens, and 10 replications for each were prepared and tested under static bending and shear loads, thus the moment and shear force bearing performances were determined. Furthermore, the mathematical models were developed by analyzing the relations between the corner block dimensions and moment and shear performances. Therefore, furniture designers could estimate the moments and shear forces for each wood species as a function of corner block dimension by utilizing these predictive expressions. At the end of the tests, the specimens prepared of beech and reinforced with 60×60×25 mm corner blocks gave the highest values for both moment and shear performances.
