Continuous maintenance, repair and rehabilitation are of great importance in the physical sustainability of irrigation schemes in Turkey. Maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of irrigation schemes not only increase the sustainability of irrigation facilities, but they also increase the efficiency of water utilization and plant development in the region. The responsibility for the maintenance, repair and rehabilitation needs of transferred irrigation schemes lies with the beneficiaries of these irrigation systems. This study encompasses the effects of the management of irrigation schemes in Turkey for physical sustainability, as well as irrigation ratios, project irrigation efficiency, types of irrigation schemes and their ages.
