The importance of computer based education in vocational and technical training: A field study on accounting programs in vocational and technical training in Turkey

The development in the technology of knowledge and communication in the last century and the global economy derived of this development have been a forcing power affecting the lives of the societies and the necessity for having a qualified manpower. This also points out that the necessity for the qualified manpower is increasingly going up as it has been in all periods. Especially, the vocational and technical units in the universities have a national responsibility to do their duties in employing qualified manpower according to the needs for the time. The Accounting programs in two year vocational schools, among the Vocational and Technical Education, which belongs to YOK (The Turkish Higher Education Council: THEC), are examined by applying a survey. The following issues are searched in this study: whether the lessons are performed in a computerized classes, whether the application hours are spend on computers, the instructors employed for these lessons have enough computer knowledge to pass on vocational knowledge by computer, the instructors' point of view about computer, the frequency and types of renovation themselves in teaching by computer and the attitudes of the instructors. The results are summarized in frequency distribution tables. Owing to these results, it will be tried to enlighten in what kind of an Accounting program the students are brought up in a Vocational and Technical Education System in Turkey.
