Turkey is known as a soldier nation. In Turkey the man who hasn't done his military service is considered as lacking. Performing military service is a source of pride. In Trabzon, "soldier celebrations" are performed before the young men leave for service. Their families start the celebration with food and entertainment a week before they leave. Close and distant relatives invite the soldiers for a farewell dinner. These young men arrange a ride or rent a car together. The writings on car demonstrate their desires and expectations. The soldier celebrations continue on the last Friday, the last day and night, with learning and entertainment. On the last day of the celebration friends and families send the young men off to military in a festive atmosphere.en_US
