Coastal zone mangement and fisheries in Mugla Province (Southern Aegean)

Abstract

In this study was carried out to determine the place and importance of coastal zone manegement and fisheries in Southern Aegean region. With a remarkable increase of socio-economical activities in the coastal zone during the last years of this area. The most important activites in Southern Aegean region coastal areas, 1124 km shore length, are mainly fisheries, tourism, forestry, mariculture, settlement and projects of marine protected areas. Coastal fisheries of Southern Aegean region has included fisheries, lagoon and mariculture activities. There are detected 12 purse-seines, 12 trawls and 1596 longline - gillnets boats in fisheries, 3 lagoons, that are Gulluk, Bogazici, Dalyan, 5 hatcheries and 147 cage culture units.
