OIL REFINERY WASTEWATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

Wastewater pollution with organic toxic substances leads to many environmental problems. Industrial wastewater discharges pollute many water bodies which leads to serious damage to the flora and fauna of the aquatic ecosystem. 3 water samples were analyzed according to the contract HS-153/2-18 between the Oil Refinery named Heydar Aliyev and Baku State University. At the catalytic cracking unit of the oil refining industry water samples were taken and 15 PAHs, 13 phenolic compounds, 9 heavy metals were analyzed in the samples. All GC-MS analyzes were performed on a high-sensitivity Agilent 5975 mass detector equipped with an Agilent 6890N gas chromatograph. Heavy metals were analyzed in ICP-OES, Optima 2100DV. Then photochemical reactions were considered in the presence of rutile TiO2 nanoparticles to purify phenol from wastewater. The course of the photochemical reaction was monitored on a "Varian Cary50" spectrophotometer. After the mixture was analyzed and the decomposition of phenol was 99%. The SEM, XRD analyzes of the TiO2 nanoparticles were performed in the Nano laboratory of Baku State University. The size of TiO2 nanoparticles used in the photochemical reaction ranged from 10 to 30 nm and TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by the sol-gel method under mild conditions. The concentrations of the chemicals found in industrial effluent surpassed the allowed limit.
