Abstract

Emergency service departments are constantly complex and dynamic areas. Therefore, the working environment of emergency doctors is characterized by an uncontrolled and unpredictable workload in which patients' initial diagnosis is vital in a short period of time, errors are irreversible, all factors in the service are effective, and multiple patients require simultaneous care. In this study, physical conditions and design properties influencing the efficiency of emergency room doctors are analyzed with a real case in a hospital in Turkey. For this purpose, The Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method is used based on the fact that these factors that affect the efficiency of doctors may be related. The criteria obtained from literature research and expert opinions are evaluated by the group decision making method. In this process, evaluations are carried out in a fuzzy environment to eliminate vagueness and uncertainties that may arise from the perceptual differences of decision makers. The results of the study revealed that the criteria are related to each other and that the most important criterion is the architectural design of the working area. In addition, the study revealed the usefulness of fuzzy DEMATEL method in such a field of application. © CSP-Cambridge, UK.
